JSON Compare FAQs
How do I compare two JSON files?+
Paste, type, or upload the original JSON on the left and the updated JSON on the right. Select Compare to inspect both documents recursively. The results identify the exact path of every added, removed, or changed value, including values nested inside objects and arrays.
Does JSON property order affect the comparison?+
No. JSON objects are compared by their property names and values, so changing the order of object keys does not create a difference. Array order does matter because each array item has a numbered position. Moving an array value can therefore appear as one or more changes.
Can I compare large or nested JSON documents?+
Yes. The comparison follows nested objects and arrays and reports each difference with a JSON-style path. Performance depends on your browser and device, but normal API responses, configuration files, and exported datasets can be compared without sending their contents to a server.
Is my JSON uploaded when I compare it?+
No. Parsing and comparison run locally inside your browser. Files selected with Upload are read directly on your device and are not transferred to jsontoyaml.net. This makes the tool suitable for private data, although you should always follow your organization’s security requirements.
