JSON Data Type FAQs
How do I identify data types in JSON?+
Paste, type, or upload valid JSON and select the inspect button. The tool walks through the complete document and maps every property and array item to its detected JSON type. Choose Path map for detailed locations or Type summary for totals grouped by type.
What JSON data types can this tool detect?+
The inspector recognizes objects, arrays, strings, integers, decimal numbers, booleans, and null values. Although JSON officially has one number type, integers and decimal numbers are reported separately because that distinction is useful when designing database fields, application models, schemas, and API contracts.
How are nested objects and arrays displayed?+
Nested values use readable JSON paths beginning with the root symbol. Object properties appear with dot notation, while array items use numbered brackets. Property names containing spaces or special characters use bracket notation. This makes it easy to find the original location of every detected type.
Is my JSON uploaded for type detection?+
No. Parsing and data-type inspection happen entirely within your browser. Text you paste and files you select are not transferred to jsontoyaml.net or an external service. The report can be copied or downloaded locally after it is generated.
