JSON to Excel FAQs

How do I convert JSON to an Excel file?+

Type, paste, or select a JSON file, choose a worksheet name, decide whether nested objects should be flattened, and select Convert. Review the generated rows and columns in the spreadsheet preview, then select Download Excel to save the workbook to your device.

What JSON structure works best for Excel?+

An array of objects produces the clearest spreadsheet because each object becomes one row and its properties become columns. A single object becomes one row. If objects contain different properties, the converter creates a combined set of worksheet columns and leaves unavailable cells blank.

How are nested JSON values represented?+

With Flatten nested enabled, nested object properties become dot-separated columns such as owner.name and stats.rating. Arrays remain JSON text inside a cell so their item relationships are preserved. Disable flattening when you prefer complete nested objects to remain in individual cells.

Which Excel format does the tool download?+

The tool creates an Excel-compatible XML workbook with an .xls extension. It preserves strings, numbers, booleans, worksheet names, header styling, and frozen headings without sending your JSON to a server. Microsoft Excel and compatible spreadsheet applications can open the downloaded file.
