YAML to JSON FAQs
How do I convert a YAML file to JSON?+
Paste, type, or upload a YAML or YML file into the input editor. Choose your preferred JSON indentation and select Convert. The tool validates the YAML first, then produces formatted JSON that you can copy or download as a JSON file.
Can YAML comments be converted to JSON?+
YAML supports comments, but JSON does not have a comment syntax. Comments are therefore used only while parsing and are not included in the converted JSON. Keys, arrays, nested objects, strings, numbers, booleans, and null values are preserved as JSON-compatible data.
Why does YAML sometimes produce strings instead of numbers?+
YAML parsers determine value types from syntax. Quoted numbers remain strings, while unquoted numeric values generally become JSON numbers. If a value must keep leading zeros or should remain textual, quote it in YAML before converting so its intended meaning is unambiguous.
Is this YAML to JSON converter private?+
Yes. YAML parsing and JSON generation run locally inside your browser. Your pasted text and uploaded files are not sent to jsontoyaml.net or another conversion service. This provides a fast private workflow, although you should still follow your organization’s security requirements.
